Gracie was a very difficult cat to paint, maybe because she was my first cat... but I'm not sure all cats are this complex. She has these little white furs all over her face that accent over her stripe pattern, which is black, warm tan, ochre, warm white, cool brown... just all OVER the place! haha Once I got the stripe pattern down for the most part, I went in to start adding the white furs. From there it was a game of back and forth with lights and darks until I felt I got it. We started off with an orangey ochre background, but I wasn't digging it, so we switched to a royal blue, which was more suitable for her Highness Gracie Bea. I think that was the best decision. It contrasts nicely with her fur. Overall I am happy with Gracie and once again learned SO much in the process. PHEW lots a work. Glad I documented it to see how far I came from the first strokes!
